Benazir Bhutto murder case: arrest warrants for Musharraf reissued

The Anti Terrorist Court (ATC) on Saturday re-issued arrest warrants for former president Pervez Musharraf in Benazir Bhutto assassination case. Rana Nisar Ahmed Khan, Judge of ATC III resumed the hearing of the high profile murder case of Benazir Bhutto in high security prison Central Jail Adiala and directed the prosecution that the arrest warrants should be sent to Musharraf at his residences in Islamabad and London.
The court also instructed the prosecution to obtain London home address of Musharraf so that the process for issuing 'Red Warrant' is initiated to bring him to justice. The learned judge accepted the plea of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and reissued the arrest warrants. The FIA Special Prosecutor Zulfiqar Malik presented interim challan of the high profile murder prepared after obtaining the record of the two BlackBerry cell phones of the slain PPP leader.
The court also distributed the copies of interim challan among two detained police officers, former City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Saud Aziz and ex-Superintendent of Police Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad and seven other co-accused in the case. Special Prosecutor of FIA, Zulfiqar Malik, lawyers of two detained police officers Malik Waheed Anjum and counsel of other co-accused Malik Rafiq appeared before the court and argued on the interim challan the FIA presented by prosecution.
FIA Prosecutor pleaded before the court that arrest warrants of Musharraf be issued again as after the issuance of orders by the court, a team of FIA went to his house located at Chak Shahzad Islamabad, but they were informed that he is residing in England now-a-days, therefore no direct contact could be made with him, he added.
The FIA in its latest interim challan declared that the assistance of Musharraf was there in the assassination plot. The challan also stated that without including Musharraf in the investigation, the real hands behind the killing could not be unveiled. Special Judge ATC-III, Rana Nisar Ahmed Khan after issuing the warrants distributing the copies of the challan among other nine accused and adjourned the hearing till March 5. It is expected that on next hearing, charges would be framed against the accused including two former police officers.
