An International Agriculture Centre will be set up at University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) to provide a firm foundation to the sector by focusing on genetic revolution, climate change, biotechnology, precision agriculture, efficient use of agricultural inputs by linking the 50 years legacy of UAF with new challenges and needs of the next fifty years.
This was stated by UAF VC Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, while addressing the participants of inaugural session of horticulture week at Institute of Horticultural Sciences. Dr Iqrar Amad Khan told that UAF had made tremendous progress in its outreach programme, as for the last three years our scientists used to go on the doorsteps of the farmers even in far flung areas of the country.
Dr Khan told that University of Western Australia intends to offer scholarships for conducting research in flood hit areas. He told that University had produced 850 PhDs in the last fifty years and during the last one year, more than 85 scholars have earned their PhDs, which is a paramount testament of its strength and capabilities.
He told that by virtue of scientific contributions, agricultural productivity has witnessed five time high yields and now we need to transform green into gain revolution, which will ease out the farmers' problems at their doorsteps. He described the horticulture as vital for the country's export as it has tremendous growth potential as many new avenues are set to be explored in the next few years. Dr Khan told that there are more than 60 PhD students pursuing their endeavours in different national and international organisations of the world.
