A writ petition has been filed before Lahore High Court to summon former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and PPP information secretary, Fauzia Wahab for giving contradictory statements on the issue of diplomatic immunity to Raymond Davis and divulge material before the court to substantiate these statements.
Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique filed the petition in which he said that Shah Mahmood Qureshi publicly stated that Davis did not enjoy diplomatic immunity while Fouiza Wahab said he had complete immunity. Azhar says American ambassador and counsellor have categorically declared that the person apprehended by Punjab Police as Raymond Davis is not Davis but his real name has not been disclosed so far. He said such a person has no right to claim diplomatic immunity under Vienna Convention or any other relevant law. Azhar said that Raymond Davis should not be released from custody or handed over to the US government until it is decided whether he has diplomatic immunity.
