Jamaat-e-Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan has demanded registration of an FIR against the US Consul General for Qartba Chowk tragedy along with the recovery of the vehicle involved in the incident, failing which the JI would hold blockade of the consulate and Labourites themselves would decide how to deal with the killers.
Addressing a huge rally organised by JI at Multan Road against the official statement with regard to the diplomatic immunity for Raymond Davis, the killer of three innocent citizens, Munawar announced a road caravan on February 20 with the members of the bereaved families and a sit-in at the Qartaba Chowk on February 25 prior to the US Consulate blockade.
The protest would continue till the hanging of Raymond Davis and a disciplinary action against the PPP official spokesperson Fauzia Wahab on the immunity issue, he said. The JI chief said Fauzia Wahab had announced the party policy as the rulers wanted to free Raymond Davis and the explanation by Farhatullah Babar was not enough. He said if that was not PPP's policy, Fauzia Wahab must be immediately removed from her post. If Fauzia Wahab had made a blunder, she must plead guilty and seek an apology from the masses, he said, adding that the nation was completely united on Raymond David's issue and the court should complete its process in this regard.
He deplored that the police had so far failed to recover the Consulate vehicle that had run over the third young man and the driver. He said this was a serious issue and the nation should avail this opportunity to get rid of the US slavery. Stating that the US friendship was far more dangerous than its enmity, the JI chief said that breaking ties with the US would mean freedom from US slavery. He said that the US aid had gone only to the rulers while the masses had only got poverty. Syed Munawar Hasan said the big rally at Multan Road showed that the masses considered Raymond Davis a killer and the US as the patron of murderers. He said whoever takes side with the US, was a traitor.
While addressing the rally, JI deputy chief, Sirajul Haq said that the US was facing a humiliating defeat in Afghanistan but the Pakistani rulers were still its slaves. He counselled the rulers to choose between the nation and the US and warned that if they sided with Washington, they would only be inviting the fate of Babrak Karmal and Dr Najeeb of Afghanistan. JI Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch, said on the occasion that if the rulers freed Raymond Davis, they would be swept away by the flood of the Pakistani people.
