Eid Milad-un-Nabi processions: Islamabad police chalk out security plan

Islamabad Police have chalked out a comprehensive security plan for processions of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAWW) on Wednesday (today) and decided to deploy 1500 additional personnel of Police and commandos to avert any untoward incident.
SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan in a high level meeting, which was attended by SPs, SDPOs and SHOs, finalised the security plan and SP City Zone Haroon Joya was assigned to supervise the security arrangements of the main procession who will be assisted by DSP City Circle Ahmed Iqbal and SHO Aabpara police station.
The SSP said that more than 1300 policemen would be deployed on various routes of processions along with personnel of Frontier Constabulary (FC). A total of 84 personnel of FC and 138 from Rangers would assist Islamabad police at various points of processions for security duties.
The SSP said that parking lots would be far away from the routes of processions with proper security arrangements. Metal detectors as well as walk-through gates would be used at entry and exit points of the processions. Police officers, who will be on security duty, will not be allowed to leave the specified place before end of the processions. Advance police party will move on foot ahead of the procession. Special deployment would be made at roof tops while patrolling will be ensured on the routes of procession before its passage from there.
Police Reserves will remain stand-by for assistance in case of any untoward incident. All in-charge points and platoons force have been directed to keep roll of force deployed under their command. Parking along with the routes of procession will not be allowed and folk lifters have been arranged to remove vehicles if parked along with route.
It will be also ensured that all police officers/men deployed on duty to display their service card on chest. Bomb Disposal Squad will ensure technical sweeping at the routes and venues. Plain cloth police officials will keep watch on the suspicious persons while monitoring cameras will be installed along the routes of procession.
The ITP has also devised a special traffic plan to ensure smooth flow of traffic at the time of procession and decided to depute an additional staff of 139 policemen at various locations for the guidance of road users. Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Dr Moeen Masood will overall supervise the traffic plan while two SPs including Mir Vais Niaz and Farhat Abbass Kazmi will also remain present along with routes of procession to ensure convenience to road users.
Moreover, Kashmir Highway from Chand Tara Chowk to Dhokri Chowk while Sehrwardy road from 7th avenue to Garden road G-6/4 will remain close from 4 pm to 6 pm on 12th Rabi ul Awal due to the procession. Similarly, Municipal road from GPO Chowk to Aabpara chowk will also remain close for all type of traffic. However, 9th avenue, Faisal Avenue, Jinnah Avenue and 7th avenue will remain open according to the plan.
