Environmental Management Consultants (EMC) in collaboration with Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KTI) is holding a consultative meeting to get feedback of participants on Karachi Transportation Improvement Project (KTIP) on February 17th.
With the joint efforts of federal government, Sindh Government, City District government Karachi and Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), an agreement was signed on October 7,2009 to undertake study on KTIP. Accordingly, the study was kicked off on Aril 5, 2010.
The first phase of the study would be completed by June 2011 and transport master plan with 2030 vision would be ready. Under the second phase feasibility study report of selected priority corridors identified in the study plan and will be made available by April 2012.
The transport master plan would be supplemented and completed with other partial studies and survey including socio economic and environmental impact assessment studies along the selected/ identified pubic transport corridor JICA has assigned the study on socio environment to EMC. The study started recently and would be completed within two and a half months. The major tasks to be achieved in the study would include community consultation with all concerned stakeholders with view to develop an effective plan and implement transportation corridor smoothly with consensus.
