Developing chick embryo model: veterinary scientists make significant breakthrough: UVAS vice chancellor
The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz has said that veterinary scientists' have made a significant breakthrough of developing chick embryo model for studying toxic effects of various chemicals.
The research models record development of embryo and its movement in egg revealed that in smoke pollution, embryos develop abnormalities in movements and growth. He was speaking at concluding day of one week training workshop titled "Advanced Diagnostics and Control of Poultry Diseases" held at University Diagnostic Laboratory (UDL) under the aegis of Poultry Research Institute (PRI), of the Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L&DD) on Monday.
Dean faculty of veterinary sciences Professor Dr Nasim Ahmad, chairman department of microbiology Professor Dr Khushi Muhammad, director WTO_Quality Operation Laboratory Professor Dr Atif Hanif were present on the occasion.
Director UDL Professor Masood Rabbani said that it had been the fifth batch of professionals of such series of workshops coming to UDL adding that the trainees had been trained in all those modern disease diagnostic techniques, which were need of hour for rapid, reliable, cost effective and quality testing to detect various emerging diseases causing loses of millions of rupees to the poultry stakeholders. He further said that sixth batch of the training series is due in March, 2011.
Earlier, dean faculty of veterinary sciences Professor Dr Nasim Ahmad lauded the efforts of UDL for its dynamical contribution in the field of disease diagnostics, outbreak handling, provision of research facility to postgraduate students and producing the skilled human resources for strengthening livestock sector of the country. Later, Vice Chancellor, UVAS, Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz distributed the certificates amongst the participants and advised them to effectively use these skills in the field for proper disease diagnosis and for facilitation of the stakeholders.
