It is open season on politicians round the world and the reasons are not hard to determine. An analysis shows that the modern technologies that have been so ardently allowed and followed by the countries are at the bottom of this information that keeps coming through to the masses.
The youths are understandably angry at the politicians for I suspect and if I were to take a leaf out of my current activities the ministers have been guilty of finding jobs only for their nephews and nieces. World renowned scientists have done this what to speak of the not so renowned. But what is more worrying is that they have been telling lies and using the media for that purpose.
The legal damages equation is not correctly ordained in this country for the best way to clear the Aegean stables is by getting the various players in an equilibrium situation where the tyrannical characters can be taken to task and the proprietary of the system and the balance in a society are maintained. Pakistan's jurists would be well advised to have such a law on the anvil or face the consequences at some later day.
Pakistan's ruling bosses have always been up to making landed assets and the matter is not closed yet. The urban bubble will not burst in Pakistan because it is not based on shady and unsecured loans. Therefore, the big mafias in land will continue to play their game and make money at the expense of the public and the governance will go to hell.
That has been happening ever since the times of Ayub and in fact his senior ministers were involved in such matters to a vast extent. The lesser political systems were like wolves after the satiated lion had his fill to go in for the remnants. Times as I have said have changed. Any one involved in any kind of business cycle will be up for grabs.
From Berlusconi kind of activities to the addition of assets like in the Central Asian Republics the misdemeanour are up for consideration and do not for a minute think that the public does not know. Unearned income is usually shady and questionable. The politicians are suffering in their modelling with the abilities to see as far their nose. They take a short-term view of things. I spoke to some of them and they were of the view that such times may never come again and therefore they were justified I what they were up to.
It is also a fact that political business cycles operate at a lower level of convictions and are at the sub-optimal levels. Aggregate demand and economic activity are directly related to the economic bias that is established towards the well-being of the individual as against the well-being of the 'I'.
The economic activity keeps on the reduction path. To understand the economy, the economists or any social scientist need to know more about the same. Very little work has been done on this. One thing is sure that the decisions taken are directly related to the time of the elections. That these decisions make the public worse off by the tendencies to do anything that is antagonistic to the larger interest of the community.
These manipulations self-induced as these are indicate the same manipulations that the previous government was criticised for. So manipulation is a common basis for all political systems - whether they are democratic or tyrannical. Political business cycles also have a number of political implications. So economic conditions affect election results - they do or otherwise there would be no manipulation of economic actions just prior to elections.
High levels of low unemployment or high levels of growth are good for the electorate. Does the electorate have no idea about the future? To assume that would be suicidal for the electorate has a pretty good idea about the future of the next generation.
They may not know what to do about it. Are Pakistani politicians self-seeking manipulators? There are many exceptions to the rule and there are many who are good for nothing and carry with them the stigma of doing what is very simply called manipulation for the social system to which they belong. They have never been patriotic in that sense for the family comes first irrespective of merit.
Then comes the caste system and then comes the electorate and never the country. I suppose it is also necessary to secure the future by taking calculated benefits to someone who will sooner or later play a part in the securing of positions at a later date. The son-in-law of a likely powerful political boss who may wield power at will with the power structure later on, so that the reinsurance and insurance policy make way for the future of the political person.
The bureaucracy was a past master at that and would be sitting on the fence every time a position was likely to change. For change in the context of Pakistan is usually very cataclysmic. It brings ruin with it and it means that yesteryears' boss is no longer likely to stay free but would be checked into a jail for one offence or the other. So the position is very precarious.
The last regime's Nazims were a special breed and they sat in the lap of the Musharraf government and still kept on pledging allegiance to a political system. They were part of a command and control system and still were showing themselves as people's representatives. That kind of duality requires special skills and not all have it.
Evidence on these thoughts is pretty scanty and not likely to be available.
The common core of these principles is as:
1. Governments aim to win elections and in order to do that they maximise their votes.
2. Among economic outcomes electorates have preferences that are reflected in their behaviour.
3. Governments can manipulate the economy to improve their chances of re-election.
Are these contradictory in nature? These are neither contradictory nor fallacies. Politicians seek re-elections, and there is not a single politician that has not used the system to his advantage ever since Partition - nasty occupiers are also included. This is their dominant motivation and this has become very petty over the years. It has come down to taking away milk free of payment and using the state resources to the extent that these have been inordinately stretched.
The other day, a truckload of animal feed went missing and the Johnnies that are looking after the animal husbandry are bothered about their own husbandry. The milk supply to the sale point is dwindling as theft of resources has started. The new security that is there was sent out on the harassment act is now back and harassing woman staff and seeking pleasures from them. The new act by the present government provides adequate safeguards against harassment.
The act is meant for those with not enough sense to honour the women that gave them birth. The intern-mingling of dirty bureaucracy and the political business-cycle is so messy that the chances of its correction are only possible if the new cabinet takes steps to clean the Aegean stables. A new broom may make this clean. The freedom to live and let live has been abused by some of these idiots [from both the rank and file] of the two systems that the correction has to be by a major surgery.
The trust that has been reposed in the system has been lost. The dichotomies that policy-making has led to will not be resolved with ease. The only place where they may be resolved is the Presidency and nowhere else. The President has enough gumption to release the major forces that can resolve these and other complicated issues. These have been allowed to become what they are today just because the system is corrupted mentally.
Monetary corruption they are welcome to as it is a one off but mental corruption is a recurring one and these guys are now on to both mental as well as monetary corruption. Want to be independent? Want real independence? Want to be free? Try living parsimoniously; try the decent route to living and not the rich janitorial route that the MINFA has followed.
They should know that if they sow intrigue they will get intrigue in return and they should also know that if they misbehave with the system then they will be subjected to the same. They are all passing shows. The political business cycle has to be reined in if the system of democracy has to go on and be furthered. There are no shortcuts and as for the media that has gained a reputation for telling lies [at least some of them]; there is no telling what will befall them. Lies and cheating are hand in hand with such business cycles as I have indicated above. Take care; this is still my country despite all the warts and I will do anything to save its reputation.
