A visit to various government hospitals shows that the agony and pain of patients does not move the medical and paramedical staff and they remain unattended for hours. A pathetic situation was witnessed here on Thursday morning at a local hospital where a patient and his family were standing near the stairs of the main entrance of a government hospital to enter, but neither a wheelchair nor a paramedical staff was available to help them.
A Pashtoon family of 6, which, lives near Sabzi Mandi came to see a doctor as one of their sons, had broken his leg in an accident. Earlier, the parent took the boy to a private clinic where doctor diagnosed a fracture and applied the plaster over the leg but later when they again went to see the doctor as patient was complaining of severe pain, the doctor recommended them to visit the government hospital for which they came here but as father being an old man was waiting for a wheelchair or stretcher to be taken his child inside the building but failed due to unavailability of on duty staff.
Many other patients there also complained about the lack of equipment and bad behaviour of paramedical staff as well as unavailability of doctors. A renowned orthopedic's schedule was mentioned there as 'Daily from 9am to 1pm' although he was never found at hospital at 9am but yes he never forgets to leave at 1pm.
A little girl Sara, aged 6, was lying on a stretcher whose plaster was supposed to cut and paramedic could not do it without the help of doctor but nobody knew when the doctor would shows up? One more issue was hospital's hygienic condition, which was bad to worst as being a hospital it cannot be up to the mark. Walls were covered with pan's spitting, wrappers and cotton buds were lying all over.
Paramedic informed that how many times it should be cleaned people do not have a sense of responsibility they throw each and every thing on the floor. Above all, the hospital has shortage of cleaners. Conversely, patients said where should they throw rubbish, as there were no dustbins available. This scribe tried to speak to someone in administration but nobody was available to tell the reasons behind all the above mentioned issues.
