An activist of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was gunned down while another injured in the limits of Shahrah-e-Faisal police station on Thursday. According to police, the victim, who was later identified as Nadeem, 29 alias Ganja son of Siraj, was targeted by two unknown armed assailants near Jauhar Moor, Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
According to details, Nadeem and his friend, Salman were on the way on a motorcycle when two unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on them. Resultantly, Nadeem died on the spot while his friend Salman sustained bullets wounds.
Police said the culprits managed to flee from the scene, leaving the deceased and his friend in a pool of blood. Later, police shifted Nadeem's body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and his injured friend was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
After the incident, tension gripped Gulistan-e-Jauhar and its surrounding areas. Some people also resorted to aerial firing and forced the shopkeepers to close down their shops. DSP Ramzan Gopang while talking to this scribe informed that the victim, who was the resident of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, was going to market along with his friend.
He said the victim had remained an active worker of PPP in the past but presently he had distanced himself from the party activities. He further said the victim, who was presently jobless, was arrested a few months ago over a robbery charge. The victim's brother, Sohail is presently said to be working as vice president of area ward office of PPP. No case was registered till filing of this report.
