Mochi Gate incident: city government, rescue workers start removal of debris

City District Government Lahore (CDGL) and Rescue 1122 on Thursday started work to remove rubble of destroyed plazas collapsed in the furious fire at Mochi Gate, located in old Lahore. Work could only start after completely extinguishing fire that took Rescue 1122 four days.
The city government has set up a camp office at the site of the incident, where Commissioner Lahore, Nadeem Hassan Asif and District Co-ordination Officer Lahore, Ahad Khan Cheema are overlooking the entire operation. It was learnt that the staff would work round the clock to clean up the entire area at the earliest. However, Rescue 1122 observed that it will be a difficult task to transport the rubble through narrow streets and will be only possible through deploying labourers and using small wheel carts, and thus it would be a time-consuming task.
It may be noted that the fire, which broke out due to short-circuit in one of the shops located in Bharia Plaza, destroyed a number of buildings in the area. CDGL and Rescue 1122 have a daunting task to remove huge debris of buildings. The narrow winding and congested streets make the task difficult for rescue workers to clear the area, that too, in the shortest possible time.
