The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Thursday granted bail to an accused of blasphemy Shahid Hassan Sheikh. The applicant Shahid through his counsel submitted that he was implicated in the case on behest of Malik Iftikhar. He was vice president of Ahl-e-Hadis Mosque Committee in Batapur and had given a shop of the mosque to Iftikhar on rent.
He said on demanding rent, Iftikhar got him and two of his employees implicated in the fake case. He said the two co-accused were already released on bail. A prosecutor appearing before the court submitted that the police had recovered a stick from the accused with which they had been pocking the pages burn by them and ashes of burnt pages were also recovered from them as proof of occurrence.
He said according to the accused it was allowed in Ahl-e-Hadith sect to burn the old pages of the Holy Quran but it was defiling of Quran to burn it on dirty place, which the accused did. Local Ahl-e-Sunnat scholars and other people of Jallo More accused Shahid and his business partners Shahid Sheikh and Nawazish of burning pages of Quran and got registered an FIR against them under section 295-B of PPC.
