Prominent educationist and Rector Lahore City University, Mansoor Fasial has called upon the private educational institutions to jointly work towards the mission of making higher education more affordable and accessible to those who aspire to excel in professional studies.
He was talking to a group of academicians from various private institutions to discuss the role of private sector in promoting quality of higher education in Pakistan at Education Exhibition organised at a local hotel, Thursday. While appreciating the efforts of public universities in promoting research culture, Mansoor said that the quality of education could be enhanced in the private sector only if these institutions undertake serious research effort and commit themselves to create new knowledge.
"In the absence of any purposeful research activity, the hiking fees could hardly be justified," he said. Mansoor said that the educational institutions should focus more on developing communication skills of the students and equipping them with appropriate training to make them suitable for the present day work environment.
He hailed the organisers for holding such a successful education exhibition and said that such events provide a unique opportunity for the students and University Staff to interact with each other. He said such events could be made more meaningful if the students interacted directly with the university teachers. He said the purpose of this interaction should be focused on proper counselling of the students so that they may choose the academic discipline that is most appropriate for them.
