273 officers of State Life: Supreme Court allows benefit of revised pay scale

A Full Bench of the Supreme Court here on Wednesday allowed the benefit of revised pay scale to as many as 273 officers of the State Life Insurance Corporation. The court disposed of the appeals of Muhammad Islam and others and warned the respondent company of strict action if needful was not done in line with the mode already laid down by the Federal Service Tribunal in 2004.
Earlier the legal adviser to the corporation, undertook to comply with the orders with respect to revising their salaries on the basis of pay-scale of 1998. The bench took a very serious view that the petitioners had been running from pillar to post over the last seven years but the corporation did not bother to act upon the decision, which had no ambiguity. A bench member Justice Nisar said the departments must mend their ways and act according to law. It is not a small matter that scores of employees have been suffering to get justice and the respondent corporation is unmoved. Responsibility for this procrastination must be fixed and the responsible must be called to pay for the loss so that he gets a lesson, he warned. The court allowed the appellants to resuscitate the matter if the department would not act upon the order.
