Awami National Party (ANP) on Wednesday announced its backing to President Asif Ali Zardari's call for the Round Table Conference to bring the nation out of economic crisis and continued terrorism. In the absence of President ANP, Asfandyar Wali Khan for being unwell, President ANP Sindh, Shahi Syed addressed the press conference at Mardan House and convened the message of his party's central leadership.
He said Asfandyar Wali had addressed the party's Sindh Council called the same day and reached a number of decisions of which he mentioned only two. The first, he said, party would adhere to talks for peace and would never resort to violence. The second was purely related to the party's internal mechanism, he said, a constitutional committee was formed for holding the party's Sindh chapter elections. The committee would submit its recommendations shortly to the central leadership, he added.
He said provincial members of the party had expressed their satisfaction on the Wali's decisions, adding the fresh party's polls would be organised on lines what the central leadership had directed. Shahi Syed said the ANP leadership was fully satisfied with the decisions of ruling PPP government and the 18th Constitutional Amendment had met his party's age old demands. He said ANP would continue its support to the PPP's government and would never back out.
He said the renaming of Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa and provincial autonomy were the primary demand of ANP, which the PPP government fulfilled. He said Asfandyar Wali had directed the party to always stick to process of negotiations and avoid turning violent at any stage. He said ANP would continue peace efforts. To a question, Shahi Syed said his party was always ready for peace talks with any other political party.
