Jamaat-i-Islami on Wednesday submitted an adjournment motion to Senate Secretariat demanding debate of the House on 'Record of Discussion' (RoD) signed by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) with Turkish Airlines, sparking country-wide protests of the employees of the national flag carrier.
The motion has been submitted by three JI senators including Professor Khurshid Ahmed, Professor Mohammad Ibrahim and Afia Zia. The movers, while quoting reports of the national media, expressed serious concern on the country-wide strike by PIA employees, saying that passengers have faced serious problems due to the on-going protests in all the major airports of the country including Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.
They said that dozens of flights were canceled due to the strike, causing serious inconvenience to passengers going abroad. The adjournment motion called upon the chairman Senate to allow discussion on the matter in the upcoming session of the Upper House of the Parliament by suspending routine business.
