This refers to the ongoing protests, demonstrations, across the country and various letters posted in the national media over the sad incident which took place in Lahore last week, in which two of the young men were killed by a US Embassy employee, Raymond Davis, while the third one was allegedly killed by another US Embassy car, called in by Davis as a support vehicle following the shooting incident.
Loss of life, under any circumstances, is a sad incident. Wanton killings cannot and should not be condoned, such as the above one if indeed this incident is determined by a court of law to be a case of wilful and unlawful murder. Until a court of law delivers its judgement, whether Davis is guilty of deliberate wanton killing or he legitimately acted in self-defence, as claimed by him, good sense and prudence demand that one should refrain from passing premature judgement. In case Davis is found to be guilty or, not guilty of, the alleged crime, he should be dealt strictly according to the law of the land.
Pakistan has also been a killing field for foreigners. Many foreigners, including some Americans, have been killed in Pakistan. Has any Pakistani political party, such as the Jamaat-e-Islami, JUI-F or Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, who now taking out processions and organising street demonstrations against the Lahore killings, allegedly perpetrated by an American, condemned the wanton killings of these foreigners? Did they take out a public procession against these murders committed by Pakistanis?
Thousands of innocent Pakistanis have been brutally murdered by the so-called "Jehadists" and the Taliban. Not one of the above political and religious parties has ever taken out a single procession to publicly condemn the killings of fellow countrymen, women and children. Not a single religious or political party has taken out processions or has protested in public against the rampant corruption, unchecked lawlessness, poverty-related suicides and galloping inflation making the life of the poor citizen unbearable. What double standards and selective protests!
