Senators urged to pass resolution to show solidarity with Egyptians

While expressing solidarity with Egyptian people fighting for democratic reforms, a nationalist senator Thursday urged the House to pass a unanimous resolution in support of their on-going reformed driven move. Advisor to the Prime Minister Mian Raza Rabbani though supported the idea, but said that it would be inappropriate to pass such a resolution without taking onboard the Foreign Office.
The suggestion came during proceedings of the House when a nationalist senator Hasil Bazenjo of the National Party, while speaking on a point of order urged all the members of the House to come forward and pass a unanimous resolution to show support to the Egyptian people in their efforts against the 30 years old dictatorship. "If we call ourselves as democratic people, then come and support the democratic movement in the Egypt and pass a resolution in support of their just cause," he urged.
He said that owing to the massive protests in the Egypt, now the 'dictators' in the entire Arab world, including Syria, Jordan and Saudi Arabia were upset for their fates. He, while lauding the Egyptian people, said that they gave a clear message to the entire world that democracy was not only suitable for West and the US, but it can also be applicable in the Arab world.
Endorsing Bazenjo's idea, Mian Raza Rabbani said that Pakistani people were standing side by side with the Egyptian people in their efforts for democratic reforms and are equally sharing their grieves. However, he added that it would not be appropriate to pass the resolution in the absence of representatives of the Foreign Office, adding that we should vow our support for the democratic reforms in Egypt. "We should declare that the people of Pakistan support the people of Egypt in their efforts for democratic reforms," he said.
Rabbani added that Pakistani people always supported the just movements like the cause of Palestinians and the Kashmir people for their self-determination. In his observation on the resolution, Chairman Senate Farooq HNaek said that it does not need his consent in brining any such resolution and added that anyone can move a resolution in this regard.
Meanwhile, speaking on a point of order Haji Ghulam Ali of the JUI-F diverted attention of the House towards the recent report of State Bank of Pakistan stated that it was very unfortunate that every day a mega industry was being closed and urged the government to meet the stakeholders for immediate redressal of their problems.
He also expressed the fear that Governor SBP might be given punishment for sketching the true picture of the country's economy and financial constrains. Senator Khalid Sommro demanded that Sindhi language should be given the status of national language.
