Experts of Japan International Co-operation Agency (Jica) presented second progressive report of the study for Karachi Transport Improvement Project in the third meeting of Technical Committee held in the Conference Room of Civic Centre on Wednesday.
Jica team leader Minoru Shibuya gave a detailed briefing on the study of project. He said already 60 percent of the study work was completed and the Transport Master Plan 2030 would be completed by June this year. The completed master plan will also be presented to all stockholders so that their opinion could be considered while giving it a final shape.
Minoru Shibuya further informed that transport corridors for Karachi would be suggested in the second phase of the study and a feasibility report would be prepared which would be released by April 2012. These reports would provide great help in the implementation of transport projects from local and international investors
The Jica team leader while citing various sectors of study also presented a detailed view of the socio-economical conditions, transport policy, public transport network, land utilisation and environment.
Director of Consultant Firm on this occasion said that a comprehensive survey of 40,000 family units was conducted on the directive of Jica, which covered 18 towns and six cantonment boards. So far survey of 27,000 family units has been completed and the data collection was underway which would give considerable help in the planning of an improved transport system for the city.
He further said that information collection from stockholders for this study was continuing and people were also co-ordinated in different areas of city. KMTC Director General Malik Zaheer-ul-Islam told the meeting that the steering committee was in contact with us since last eight months and 50 percent of work of Karachi Master Plan 2030 was competed.-PR
