The Old Ravians-XI beat Vice-Chancellor XI by 58 runs at the festival annual cricket match here at the Government College University Oval Ground on Friday. Choosing to bat first, the Old Ravians-XI scored 171 runs in 15 Overs under the captaincy of former text cricketer Saleem Malik who scored 88 runs on just 42 balls. Chasing a challenging total of 171 runs, Vice Chancellor-XI could not face the heat and surrendered after scoring 113 runs in 14 Overs.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, the former test cricketer Sultan Mehmud, recalled his memories associated with playing under the famous clock tower of GCU. He said GCU inculcates the true sense of fair play and sportsmanship. "I believe that if players observe the very sense of gentleman's game - cricket - there would be no embarrassing incidents like match fixing and spot fixing etc, he added.
GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Aftab congratulated the Old Ravians on wining the annual festival match for the consecutive third year. Talking to media, Saleem Malik said that nothing can match the happiness, which comes while playing under the historical clock tower of GCU.
