Textile exporters urged to continue struggle to strengthen industry

Textile exporters should continue their struggle for strengthening industry and economy and they will definitely succeed, said Syed Farrukh Mazhar, Managing Director SGS addressing the meeting of Pakistan Textile Testing Foundation (PTTF) celebrating the accreditation of textile laboratory at national and international level on Friday.
He said that accreditation of Pakistan Textile Testing laboratory with Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) will play a vital role in assuring quality textile exports from Faisalabad, the textile hub of the country. To face the challenges of current world economic recession, increase in national exports is need of the hour, he said. He said that there is a lot of potential and hoped that Pakistan would get back soon on track of industrial development. He congratulated the members of PTTF on this great achievement. The Managing Director SGS thanked the management of PTTF for co-ordination and trust.
Earlier Muhammad Yousaf, Chairman Pakistan Textile Testing Foundation welcomed the guests and said that without support and guidance of SGS, the achievement of accreditation was a hard task and with the infusion of their technical expertise, PTTF lab not only set high standards in textile testing but also jacked up its revenue.
Highlighting the background of PTTF lab, Yousuf said that with the onset of new world trade order and phase out of textile quota system, standardisation and excellence in quality has become the hallmark of foreign trade. Foreign buyers particularly emphasised product quality and placed conditions of sample approval of recognised textile testing laboratory, he added. Textile exporters from Faisalabad had to get their sample testing from foreign labs incurring heavy expenditure. Need of high quality textile testing lab at Faisalabad became imperative, he said.
He said that after strenuous efforts of textile exporters and financial assistance of the government, a state-of-the-art textile testing laboratory was established in 2005 at PTEA building on "no profit - no loss" basis. PTTF lab played a key role in textile testing during the last five years and keep its efforts to achieve the international standards in textile testing, he said. "I am proud to announce that PTTF lab has achieved its goal and now this lab is of international standards," he claimed and added that accreditation of PTTF lab with PNAC is visible proof of their claim. He said that PTTF lab is equipped with state-of- the-art testing machinery imported from reputed manufacturers of UK, USA and Germany due to which its testing has been recognised internationally. The lab is providing large scale testing services covering wide spectrum of testing specifications to meet all testing requirements of weaving, processing, home textiles, made-ups, garments and knitted industries, he added.
