CID seizes cache of weapons in encounter: police informer, woman killed

Crime Investigation Unit (CID) of Sindh Police on early Wednesday recovered huge cache of weapons after a brief encounter with arms smugglers, which left two persons including a woman and police informer killed and two other injured.
According to reports, CID police had received a tip-off that some unscrupulous elements were planning to transport huge cache of arms, ammunitions and drugs from upcountry to Karachi. On this information, the team headed by SP CID Choudhry Aslam, was deployed at Super Highway to foil the said attempt of the bootleggers.
Police said the team, on identification of police informer, intercepted corolla (V-3199) near Karachi toll plaza, but in return the inmates sitting in another car opened fire on the CID team, which left the police informer Sabir Ali in a critical condition, who succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
On the police retaliation, a woman (Nazia Bibi) sitting with the accused was killed and an accused (Aktar Zareen) was severely injured while the inmates managed to flee from the scene. The CID police recovered six Kalashnikov, eight TT pistol, 3000 rounds and over 80kgs of Hashish from the hidden cavities of seized car. SP CID Choudhry Aslam said the accused were transporting arms and ammunitions from upcountry for an outlawed Tehrik Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
He said that in exchange of fire, the police informer Sabir Ali was killed while a policeman Younus was injured. He said the accused Akhtar was earlier arrested over the charge of illegal weapons smuggling in 2010 but later he was released, due to lack of evidences. He said the case was registered against the accused and CID police were searching those who managed to escape from the crime scene. Furthermore, he said the accused was travelling with a woman, who was his relative, to deceive the police.
