PSRMA concerned over PSM's price mechanism

Published Updated

Pakistan Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association (PSRMA) has urged Pakistan Steel Mill to bring the price difference between 150mm x 150mm and 100mm x 100mm billets at par. In a press release the association noted that Pakistan Steel Mill price list effective from January 22, 2011, came as a shock for its members where price difference between 150mm x 150mm and 100mm x 100mm billets was increased from Rs 500 to Rs 3000.
Since Pakistan Steel Mill stated rolling billets the price difference between these sizes has been the same or have a maximum difference of Rs 500 100mm billets. 100mm billets are used for rolling steel bars, while 150mm billets are mainly used for special grade products like girders, channels and angles of heavy size which hold a premium and are sold at a much higher price than of steel bars.
The association expressed concern over price mechanism and said that it cannot understand why Pakistan Steel Millis wants to make a loss by reducing its price of a specific product. Is Pakistan Steel Mill trying to benefit any group or individual, the association asked. The association has always pointed out this anomaly/discrimination at several times at forums.-PR
