Polio administration campaign: National Assembly speaker urges people to cooperate

Dr Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly has urged people from all segments of society to participate in the Polio Eradication Plan to save children from the crippling disease. The Speaker said this in her message on the commencement of Polio Eradication Plan 2011, which has launched by President, Asif Ali Zardari.
The Speaker urged Ulema, parents, teachers and other public functionaries for their Cupertino to administer polio drops to children up to age of five years. She said that Ministry of Health, Provincial and District Health Departments has chalked out a comprehensive strategy and arranged mobile teams to vaccinate children door-to-door throughout the country.
Fehmida said that Polio was a crippling disease that continues to threaten health of our children. She said that unfortunately Pakistan was among the half dozen countries in the world, which were still not completely polio free. Recalling the first Polio Eradication Initiative launched by the government of Benazir Bhutto, Dr Fehmida Mirza said that BB had a strong conviction to eradicate polio from the country, which was demonstration of her commitment to improve the social sector, particularly the health of children.
She said that government had nominated Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, as Pakistan's Ambassador for Polio Eradication, to carry forward the mission of her great mother. The Speaker said that the aim of the government was to make the country completely polio free where no child lives in the fear of being crippled for life.
She said that unfortunately the extremism and militants opposed the vaccination of children against polio. Fehmida Mirza said that they would not permit militants to deprive our children of basic health care. "Let us pledge that no child should get polio drops, will be missed out," the speaker said.
