Cross border certificates: valid data over Afghan transit goods sought

Pakistan is reconciling data of transit containers with the Afghan customs authorities to verify containers through the cross border certificates, an authentic document which confirms border crossing of vehicles carrying transit goods.
It has been reliability learnt here on Tuesday that the Pakistani authorities are expected to approach the Afghan government to obtain cross border certificates of all containers during the period of January 2007 to October 15 2010.
Through Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government is likely to approach Afghan government to obtain all the cross border certificates which were duly verified by the Pakistani and Afghan customs authorities. It is expected that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would place a formal request before the Afghan government to submit all the cross border certificates of containers which reached Afghanistan. The cross border certificates would be verified by the customs authorities for compilation of data of all containers whose certificates are available with the Afghan government.
This would ensure that how many containers have actually crossed the border of Pakistan and reached Afghanistan. Moreover, the cross borer certificates would verify the number of containers that actually crossed the Pak-Afghan border and reached their destination in Afghanistan, sources added.
