The International Customs day is celebrated every year by the customs Community across the globe. This year World Customs Day is also being celebrated with same vigor and zeal under the auspices of WCO.
The International Customs Day for 2011 is devoted to promote knowledge, learning, management development and professional training and have its theme "Knowledge, Catalyst for Customs Excellence". With the growing international trade volume the role of Customs has evolved from enforcement to facilitation for speedy clearances.
Pakistan Customs cannot remain dormant and isolated in this ever changing world. MCC (Appraisement) has not lagged behind during this development of organisation. Import related customs business processes have already been automated. Besides, customs procedures have been aligned with best international practices. This has not only ensured speedy clearance of import consignments but also safeguards the revenue. Automated Clearance System (ACP) is the testimonial example. Further, the human resource of this Collectorate undergo frequent training programs to keep abreast them in acquiring modern skills and knowledge of best international practices.
The organisation has yet to achieve important goals like real time capturing of data, risk profiling and targeted assessment. The exchange of information with world customs community and widening of knowledge base will help Pakistan Customs in this endeavour. MCC (Appraisement) believes that knowledge is the main tool to achieve excellence by Customs; therefore it will play its due role in achieving the objectives set out by the world custom community.
