As the February 28 deadline for registration of Afghan refugees gets closer, a total of 766,187 Afghans have been registered so far in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) and the rest 314,000 would be registered before time.
These views were expressed by General Manager, National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) KPK, Mir Alam Khan here on Monday in an exclusive interview with APP.
Nadra GM said the registration of 107,000 Afghan refugees would be renewed in KPK under the process, adding the authority would complete the process before the deadline.
He said the registration of Afghan refugees was in progress and ruled out chances of fraud saying that fingerprints and physical presence of the person was required for it.
He said that a total of 1.4 million Afghans were registered in KPK, out of which 400,000 Afghans were repatriated by UNHCR, adding that 32 SCAC centres were set up across KPK besides makeshift centres that move on to other areas after completing its process.
Moreover, he continued that a total of 110,000 unregistered members of the registered families were to be registered out of which 28,751 had been registered whereas 81,000 were left.
The whole process was carried out in collaboration with UNHCR, he said, adding that KPK had to bear the major crunch as 74 percent Afghans were living in it.
With regard to Watan cards, Nadra GM said the entire process of issuance of cards and money was transparent and it was carried out through the data available with the authority.
In reply to a query about complaints in issuance of Watan cards, he said that Nadra rejected 85,000 affected families out of 280,000 that were provided by the provincial government.
He said CNIC of 20,000 affected families were missing that were retrieved by Nadra through its data, adding that Rs 20,000 were issued to 197,000 affected families so far.
