Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded of the government that assets of all parliamentarians should be declared to ascertain the tax being paid by each legislator. Talking to media persons outside Parliament House on Monday, the party's parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, Dr Farooq Sattar opposed the proposed cut in development funds rather; he suggested curtailment in non-development expenditure.
He further suggested that Ministers' Enclave, the residential colony of the ministers, should also be sold and the received amount should be spent on the welfare of the poor masses of the country.
He demanded of the government that assets of the parliamentarians should be declared so that it becomes crystal clear to the nation that how much tax is being paid by their legislators.
He was of the view that members of the parliament and provincial assemblies were hiding their exact assets. The MQM leader also demanded that all the loans written off on political grounds should also be recovered.
Sattar highlighted that Rs 400 billion corruptions have been taken place in Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Steel Mills that need to be stopped.
He was of the view that there were a number of sectors where tax should not be levied and suggested that the landlords, bureaucrats and feudal of the country should be taxed instead of targeting the people every time. Regarding restoration of 4,000 employees of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), Sattar said that it was a question of millions of poor people.
