Fata's development: meeting between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, public representatives soon: Prime Minister

A group of senators on Friday called on Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at PM's House and discussed the prevailing political situation in the country. The Prime Minister said that despite economic challenges due to devastating floods, terrorism and global recession, government is striving to spare funds for the development of backward regions by cutting down non-developmental expenditures.
He announced that a high level meeting of Governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and public representatives of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) region will be convened in the coming weeks to chalk out a comprehensive plan for development of the region badly affected by terrorism.
Gilani said that government has started consultation with all political parties to work out a comprehensive and long-term economic reform plan for accelerating pace of development and sustainable economic growth. It is making concerted efforts to bring economic turnaround in near future. He added that political consensus on the economic plan would strengthen investors' confidence and pave way for rapid economic growth.
The parliamentarians reposed their full confidence in the leadership of the Prime Minister and assured him of their unwavering support. They appreciated Prime Minister's humility and keen interest for the welfare of the poor segments of the society and development of the backward regions.
They also lauded the announcement of opening universities in remote areas of the country, saying such initiatives would not only save the youths of remote areas from falling prey to extremism, but also utilise their energies for social and economic development. Those who attended the meeting included Minister of State for Postal Services, Abdul Raziq, Senator Eng. Rashid Ahmed Khan, Senator Haji Khan Afridi and Senator Hafiz Rasheed Ahmed.
