4, 000 KESC employees retrenched

Published Updated

The Karachi Electric Supply Company announced today the elimination of a number of its non-core and redundant functions. People working in these functions were offered a voluntary separation scheme that closed on January. 15, 2011. Around 4,000 of those who did not opt for the VSS have now been retrenched, confirmed the press release.
These employees will be paid all their statutory dues along with one month''s salary. The decision came after KESC''s Board of Directors'' endorsement to focus on core technical functions of the company and outsource necessary non-core functions to third party service providers who specialise in these tasks.
The KESC believes that this strategic move will significantly improve the operational performance of the company through greater focus on core activities, ie electricity generation, transmission and distribution. This improved operational performance, along with greater efficiency and productivity in necessary non-core functions would enable KESC to extend superior service to its customers. This decision will also go a long way in transforming KESC into a viable commercial entity, the press release concluded.-PR
