Shahbaz performs stone-laying ceremony of Safdar Medical College

Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Monday said that provision of quality education and improved health cover was top on the agenda of the government. Huge amount was invested during past two and half years in health sector for bringing radical improvement of health sector aimed at providing better health facilities to the masses and to convert hospitals into solace for the needy, widows and orphans in the Punjab he said.
Addressing stone laying ceremony of Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College here he said that government was spending huge amount on the provision of free medicines to the poor segment of the society and there was no cut in the budget in the provision of free medicine despite of flood devastation in the Punjab. Adequate efforts being made for improving the functioning of district and tehsil hospitals for the solace of patients in the Punjab he said.
The Punjab Chief Minister was of the opinion that Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College will not only provide quality education but also provide improved medical treatment facilities to the people at local level. He stressed upon the first batch of students that they should avail the facility of quality medical education and focus attention on serving the poor segment of the society after completion of the studies.
Our rural population he said was confronting with serious problems in getting medical treatment and keeping in view the gravity of the problem all rural health centres and basic health units were being activated to facilitate the rural population of the Punjab. In order to address the problems of rural population modern hospitals would established at tehsil headquarter level in the Punjab he said. Shahbaz Sharif pointed out that functioning of hospitals was being strictly monitored and no malpractice in health sector would be tolerated. The Chief Minister said that it is very unfortunate that hospital machinery worth billions of rupees was laid unutilised in different hospitals of the country adding that there was still need of improvement health sector.
The CM said that concept of setting up Danish Schools was to provide standard education to the poor students adding that Danish schools were competing with all top class educational institutions in the country. It was heartening to note that out of 100 students in medical college 65 are female students which indicate that female students are dominating in education sector he said. The Chief Minister said that building of medical college would be completed during current fiscal year and all modern facilities would be made available in the college.
Shahbaz Sharif disclosed that Rs 70 crore has been provided to Sialkot for development purposes and assured that pace of development work would further be accelerated for timely completion of the projects. Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Muhammad Asif MNA said that functioning of medical college in Sialkot enable the students get medical education their doorstep. Earlier, the Punjab Chief Minister performed stone laying ceremony of Khawaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College. The building of medical college would be completed at a cost of Rs 1.50 billion.
