Environmental degradation a global issue: minister

Federal Minister for Environment Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has said that environmental degradation is a global issue, which needs immediate attention of international agencies. He stated this while talking to Ambassador of Italy in Pakistan Vincenzo Prati who called on him here Monday. Federal Minister said that environment is a global issue and its devastated effects have created a numerous problems for developing countries.
While taking about Pakistan, he said that it is highly vulnerable due to climate change and global warming. He said that Pakistan is taking all possible steps to face the challenge in limited resources, expressing his will to share information and technology to meet the overwhelming impacts of environmental degradation. He also briefed the Ambassador about the projects and initiatives taken by the Ministry of Environment and thanked Italy for raising the issue specially vulnerability of Pakistan at International level.
Issues about two day Conference "Pakistan beyond the Emergency" scheduled to be held on 26-27 January, 2011 at Villa Celimontana in Rome, also came under discussion in which Federal Minister is invited. The conference will focus on environmental issues such as climate change, pollution, energy, environmental risk and industrial development.
Vincenzo Prati has said that Pakistan is an old friend of Italy and Government of Italy gives highly importance to these existing relations. He also urged to explore further ways and means to strengthen these ties in future as well. He told about the steps taken in environment sector by the Italian government, adding that Italy wants to provide all possible assistance to mitigate environmental problems of Pakistan.-PR
