To acknowledge and say that Pakistan, today, is at the brink of disaster as an entity and its economy virtually on the verge of total collapse, would be an understatement of facts and reality. Give another two years to the present corrupt to the core ruling clique of the incompetent, saddled with a spineless opposition, having the same despicable attributes, Pakistan, as a country, will be in a "back of the beyond" junkyard in Boondocks.
Pakistan has a dynastical, crooked, manipulative, self-serving, corrupt and anti people political system that is being run by utterly incompetent and conniving political hierarchy. Pakistani political parties are like the various cricket teams, competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), owned by individuals and families. If Pakistan were to progress and prosper, this despicable and wretched dynastical political system needs to be eliminated before the next generation of the crooked dynastical rogues, take-over the respective party ownership. Pakistan's dynastical crooked political system is the single most contributor to the unending political turmoil and destabilisation of the state. Without political stability and good governance, economic, industrial growth, progress and development of the country are just not possible, period.
Our governance system is equally weird. The question is: what is the need to have two different judicial systems in the country - one under the common law and the other under Shariah court? Why can't we have a single judicial dispensation, covering the entire gamut of judicial issues, which should also include the function of the Islamic Ideology Council (IIC) that currently serves no purpose other than creating confusion in the mind of largely ignorant and ill-educated population? Let the Supreme Judiciary address the issues of constitutional matters, which crop up due to dissention over interpretations of religious nature pertaining to constitutional provisions.
The hold of government over businesses must also go. The job of a government is to provide good governance to its people and not to run airlines, distribute and market petroleum products, undertake mineral exploration, manufacture, sell steel and iron products or be in the insurance business. There is no justification for the government to indulge into various businesses and keep it under the conglomeration of public sector organisations. Why a commodity trading house, dealing in sugar, wheat, pulses and edible oil, called Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), is being run by the government, the function of which can be managed by private business houses more efficiently and transparently?
These inefficient and perpetually loss making white elephants, being run by a bunch of incompetent lackeys and cronies, functioning as conduit for corruption and employment agencies, should all be dispensed with and privatised.
The crux of the issue is that the present government has been a disaster for the viability of Pakistan as a state entity and, therefore, has lost its mandate to govern. If Pakistan were to survive, there is no option other than, but to remove this government and the prevalent dynastical political system, as soon as possible with an astute, professional, committed, competent and honest interim government under accredited technocrats of impeccable competence, track record and honesty.
However, the question is: "Who will bell the cat". The only two state institutions, under the present weird and unpalatable circumstances that can bring about a change to save the country from total collapse, are the judiciary and the armed forces since an in-house or opposition triggered change of government, is not possible, for all the known manipulated reasons.
Only the armed forces can rattle, nudge and prompt a change for the good of the country which can result in the formation of an interim technocratic government to clean up the mess and put the country on road to recovery.
If Pakistan goes down as a viable economic entity, so would all the other state institutions including the armed forces and judiciary. It is a matter of survival of the nation and time to reflect and ponder.
