Foreigners invest $29.177 million in equity market

A fresh inflow of $29.177 million of foreign investors'' portfolio investment (FIPI) was witnessed at the equity market during the week ended on January 14, 2011. According to National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) data, the cumulative inflow of this mode of investment has increased to $41.072 million during the current month as compared to $72.953 million which came into the country in preceding month.
Foreign investors'' interest at the capital market continued despite uncertainty on political front and law and order situation in the country, analysts said. Foreign investors'' interest was seen mainly in energy and fertiliser sector stocks on expectations of good returns, they said.
Local retail investors and institutions also joined the rally and took fresh positions in various sectors. The foreign investors'' interest supported the KSE-100 index to register an increase of 144.50 points to close above 12,500 points level at 12,533.54 points.
