Turkish government has increased custom duty by 28 percent on the import of fabric from Pakistan and 30% on import of fabric from China. According to Federal Advisor on Textile Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, the decision has been made on the pressure from the local fabric manufacturers in Turkey.
Dr Baig that he had spoken to Pakistani Consul General in Istanbul, Turkey Dr Yousaf Junaid and advised him to take up the matter with the concerns authorities in Turkey and arrange a meeting. He informed that it would also affect the exports of millions of meter orders, which are already under production with the Pakistani mills for shipment to Turkey. Dr Baig pointed out that Pakistan is the major exporter of grey and denim fabric to Turkey and the increase in custom duty would seriously affect country''s exports.
