MoU between PIA, Turkish Airlines: PIA employees threaten to move Supreme Court

Employees of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Thursday threatened to file a petition against in Supreme Court against the MoU signed by PIA with Turkish Airlines in case the management implemented the MoU.
This was announced by President PALPA Suhail Baluch, President SAEP Shaukat, President FENA, Aziz Suharwardy, President ATAP, Najeeb-ur-Rehman, Abid Saleem of PIASSA and Kamaran Chaudhry of People's Unity after a meeting of employees associations to discuss the state of affairs in PIA, which are hitting the organization hard.
They urged the ministry of defence to intervene into the matter, saying that the ministry should immediately stop the management of PIA from implementing the MoU signed with Turkish Airlines, which would deprive the organization of a large share of revenues. They said that if it was implemented, the employees would be left with no option but to knock the doors of Supreme Court to stop the PIA management.
Instead of stating the facts about the agreement, which was signed by the management with Turkish Airlines, the management was still misleading the stakeholders, they said. Although the international airlines make such agreements on the routes they are not operating directly and add more routes through such agreements, the PIA-Turkish Airlines agreement was the first instance in aviation history that an airline is handing over the routes it is already operating to some other airline just to cut down its costs, they maintained.
Recently a code-share agreement was signed between Turkish Airlines and US Airways through which Turkish Airlines will put its code on US Airways' domestic flights and transatlantic flights between Europe and the USA while US Airways will put its code on Turkish Airlines' domestic flights, the flights between Europe and Turkey and also the transatlantic flights between Turkey and the USA.
They further said the PIA was the only carrier which has direct flights to Europe from Pakistan and it was one of the reasons that PIA was getting traffic despite its inefficient marketing. But now PIA may lose this traffic, as the flights will be operated via Istanbul. They alleged the PIA management to ignore the interest of Pakistani travellers, saying that this major policy shift would axe its passengers and revenue as well. They appealed to the Ministry of Defence to look into the operations of PIA to save the airline from losses. They announced that the employees of PIA have decided to wear black bands during working hours in protest against the said decision.
