Economic policy decisions: government asked to consult stakeholders

Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Vice-President Khalid Tawab has advised the government to take all economic policy decisions in consultation with the stakeholders and trade bodies.
Speaking at a dinner meeting hosted by Senator Abdul Hassib Khan in honour of the newly elected Vice President of FPCCI on Wednesday, he said that the government was making all decisions in isolation, which was the main cause of all economic ills.
Citing a recent example of increase in age limit for old cars' import, he said that the decision was reversed after five days. He noted that millions of rupees were stuck-up due to one wrong decision of the government. Citing grim economic condition of the country, he said that over 1,500 industrial units had been closed and people were facing enormous problems owing to sky-rocketing prices of goods.
Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan urged the representatives of trade bodies to bring economic issues and problems to his knowledge so that he could make efforts to get them resolved. He further said that consultation with stakeholders is a must for making rational policies. Haseeb Khan suggested that President and Prime Minister should attend monthly meetings of FPCCI and adopt measures for resolving economic issues.
Criticising the attitude of Federal Finance Minister, he said that the minister did not bother to hold consultative meeting with the leadership of FPPCI since last 8 months. He said that the minister was given a briefing on industrial and economic policies in senate but nothing has been done so far in this respect.
