Environment Ministry sponsoring six mega projects

Ministry of Environment is sponsoring as many as six mega projects at a total cost of Rs 12 billion in all provinces, AJK and Fata. According to written information provided to National Assembly Secretariat, the main objective of these projects is to enhance overall tree cover of country and provide necessary resources for intuition strengthening of provincial forest department.
Forestry is a provincial subject and concerned Forest Departments manages their forests. Under Millennium Development Goals, Pakistan has committed to increase forest cover from 5.01 to 6 percent by 2015 ie more than one million of new forests are planned to be developed.
The Ministry of Environment is taking many steps to develop forests and improve environment in the country. The steps including National Forest Policy, National Forest Programme, National Tree Planning Day, Mangroves for the Future (MFF) and others are being taken for this purpose.
