Despite economic crises: several companies are flourishing in Pakistan: MD DHL

Some businesses are flourishing in Pakistan albeit the country is passing through severe economic crisis. "Indubitably, businesses are affected in any economic crisis but there are several companies, which are thriving even in the prevailing economic situation," said Imran Sheikh, managing director, DHL Global Forwarding Pakistan, in an exclusive interview with Business Recorder here on Monday.
He said DHL is a reflection of its customers, as some of them would have faced challenges due to economic crisis but on the other hand there are many whom imports and exports registered significant increase.
To a question, he said that DHL was strictly following the tax guideline of the government and if Reformed GST was implemented, it would create an impact on DHL like others. He also dispelled the impression that the logistics companies were facing problems in dealing with customs department, saying that DHL has transparent dealings with Pakistan customs, as they follow a rigid code of conduct.
Although DHL registered substantial growth in 2010, there are some challenges in terms of logistics and supply chains, which need improvement to facilitate the industry, Sheikh said. He said DHL Pakistan is looking for a positive outlook in 2011 and has a three-year strategy to invest $9 million for its infrastructure improvement. Moreover, he said, DHL is playing its role in the growth of country's economy by facilitating businesses to access any market across the globe through its services.
