Equities move both ways on LSE

Published Updated

Equities on Friday moved both ways on the Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) and finally stayed in green zone amid ascending transaction volume on account of fresh buying in oil and fertiliser sectors. The LSE-25 index gained 19.96 points and was ended at 3783.95 points against 3763.99 points of Friday, while trading turnover was increased to 8.496 million shares, as compared to 6.695 million shares traded a day earlier.
The market opened on a positive sign but after crossing 3800 mark, it started declining and closed at the opening level during first trading session. As soon as the second session started, the market further moved down due to selling pressure in PPL, Kot Addu Power, Sui Northern of the oil and energy sector, while MCB Bank, Bank of Punjab, MyBank, and Dewan Cement also remained under pressure.
However, fresh move of buying in oil and fertiliser sectors like Engro Corporation, Fauji Fertiliser, Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim, Pakistan Oil Fields, PSO, OGDC, and Treet Corporation dragged the market into positive zone. Besides, NIB Bank, National Bank, Askari Bank and D.G. Khan Cement also helped improve market sentiments.
The advancing stocks were ahead of declining ones, as out of a total of 129 active issues, 44 posted gains, 21 landed in negative column, while values of 64 companies stayed glued to their previous levels. Among gainers, Millat Tractors was improved by Rs 4.67, Engro Corporation was appreciated by Rs 3.90, Pak Oil Fields gained Rs 3.71, while PSO and Treet Corporation were up by Rs 2.40 and Rs 2.10, respectively.
In the minus column, PPL lost Rs 1.29, Dewan Cement was declined by 80-paisa, while Allied Bank and Glaxo Smith were down by 55-paisa and 26-paisa, respectively. Silk Bank was the market leader whose 2.803 million shares changed hands followed by NIB Bank with 762,885 shares.
