July-December Customs collection registers 13.62 percent growth

Despite unprecedented natural calamity, economic uncertainties and trade imbalances, the custom collection has registered a robust growth of 13.62 percent during the first six months of current fiscal year.
According to the official statistics, the Pakistan Custom collected Rs 64.84 billion from July 2010 to December 2010 period, surpassing the last year's collection of Rs 57.06 billion by Rs 7.77 billion. The southern region of customs has also surpassed its half-yearly revenue target of Rs 64.27 billion by collecting Rs 64.84 billion during the said period. Similarly the monthly collection of southern region of customs has shown some 16.53 percent growth as Rs 14.05 billion was collected against the revenue collection of Rs 12.05 billion made in last corresponding period.
Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) PaCCS collected Rs 26.445 billion during July-December period, depicting 7.8 percent growth as against the collection of Rs 24.51 billion made in last fiscal period.
The MCC Appraisement has witnessed 22.3 percent growth during the said period as Rs 19.102 billion was collected as against the previous period collection of Rs15.620 billion.
The collection of MCC Port Qasim surged by 14 percent as Rs 13.682 billion was collected during the said period as against Rs 11.989 billion made in last corresponding period.
The MCC Preventive collected Rs 5.082 billion, showing a growth of 20.3 percent as against the collection of Rs 4.224 billion made in last fiscal period. The MCC Quetta has made a record growth of 225 percent as it reached Rs 312 million against Rs 96 million collected last fiscal.
The MCC Hyderabad has shown a decline of nine percent in its collection as Rs 1.192 billion was collected during the said period as compared to last period's collection of Rs 1.31 billion.
At the same time, the MCC Exports witnessed a growth of 53 percent to Rs 974 million during the said period as against the collection of Rs 633 million made in pervious fiscal period.
Meanwhile, the chief collector of customs (south) Amir Marwat said that all out efforts would be made to further improve performance in the months ahead so as to exceed the annual target assigned to the southern region of customs.
