The business community in the country has expressed profound sorrow and grief over the killing of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer in Islamabad Tuesday. In separate messages, they said Taseer was a senior politician besides a professional businessman of the country.
President of Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Shahid Naseem Khokhar said as a businessman, he was always keen to promote economic activities in the country, especially in Punjab. Under his leadership, several trading and industrial concerns besides a national English daily were running successfully. He said as the Punjab governor, Taseer always assured maximum help from the government to the second foreign earning sector of the country. He was a better choice as he ran the official affairs with serenity and dealt his political opponents with tolerance, they added.
Khokhar said Taseer was a person of versatile personalities. He was a businessman and seasoned politician of the country. Taseer's contribution in the promotion of positive journalism is evident of the fact that his own English daily of the country never hides facts and even publishes real stories about his own political friends and sitting members in the government.
Khokhar said Taseer would be remembered for his unbiased comments on social, political and economic issues. Chairman of All Pakistan Bedsheet and Upholstry Manufacturers Association (APBUMA) Khawaja Muhammad Jalaluddin Roomi said Taseer was keen for the promotion of economic and cultural ties between the business and the common man of Pakistan . Khawaja Roomi said as a businessman, Taseer was working for bringing foreign investment into Pakistan and during several meetings with trade and industrial bodies, he had always been in favour of promoting economic activities besides giving all out assistance to the industrial and traders community of the country.
