The First Information Report (No 6/2011) of the assassination of Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer was registered at Kohsar Police Station by Shehryar Taseer, son of the slain Governor, Police sources said here on Wednesday.
They said that the FIR was lodged vide number 6/2011 under section 302/109 of PPC and section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act, in which Shehryar Taseer stated that he received the information that his father Salmaan Taseer was coming out from a restaurant at Kohsar Market in F-6/3, Islamabad at 4.15 pm on January 4, 2010, when his official security guard of Elite Force Malik Mumtaz Qadri sprayed bullets with his official weapons on him.
"He (Salmaan Taseer) was rushed to the nearby Polyclinic Hospital Islamabad by police staff and employees in a critical condition where doctors pronounced him dead. The reason was that my father had a particular point of view on important national issues due to which various religious and political factions had been seriously propagating against him, as he was also receiving death threats," Shehryar mentioned in the FIR.
He further stated that his father was assassinated by the above mentioned person (Malik Mumtaz) as a result of after hatching conspiracies against the deceased by religious and political factions. On Wednesday, the family members of the Governor Punjab had said that the FIR would be registered after consultation among family members, police sources said. It is a legal requirement prior to autopsy and medico-legal report that an FIR of the incident should be registered with the concerned police station.
