The 26th PIA's Women Hockey Championship inaugural ceremony was held at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium. A total of ten teams will participate in the Women Hockey Championship. The participating teams include PIA, Wapda, Punjab (White), KPK, Pakistan Army, Pakistan Railway, Islamabad, Sindh Colour, Balochistan and Punjab Colour.
Speaking at the occasion, Managing Director PIA Captain Muhammad Aijaz Haroon said that PIA was proud to be associated with sports in Pakistan. The airline has always promoted sports in Pakistan and is proud to be sponsoring Women Hockey Championship.
He further said that PIA has provided talented Pakistani Women several employment opportunities in various fields like flight services, marketing, passenger handling, flight operations and engineering. PIA has women pilots, women co-pilots and a Women Chief Engineer.
Later on, Chairperson Sindh Women Hockey Association, Khush Bakht Shujat (MNA), presented a shield to Managing Director PIA, Captain Muhammad Aijaz Haroon. Minister for Industries Sindh, Abdul Rauf Siddiqui and other government officials were also present at the occasion. The Hockey Championship will conclude on 11th January 2011.
