MQM, ANP activists among seven shot dead: violence flares up in Karachi
At least seven people were shot on Monday evening, as violence flared up following the killing of a joint sector incharge of MQM and ANP's senior vice president of Al-Faleh ward by unknown assailants in two separate incidents. According to police sources, Adil Akhtar Jafferi s/o Ali Akhtar Jafferi, joint sector incharge of MQM for Gulbahar area, was killed in the limits of Nazimabad police station on Monday evening.
They said that some unknown armed men sprayed bullets on him when he was passing through Inquiry Office area in Nazimabad No 2 on his motorbike bearing registration no KCB-5264. They said the deceased had received three bullets in his head and succumbed to his injuries on the spot. After the incident, tension gripped the area and Nazimabad area wore a deserted look. The body of Adil was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. No case was registered till filing of this report.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain and Rabita committee in separate statements expressed profound grief and sorrow over the killing of Adil Akhtar and demanded of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Zulfiqar Mirza to take immediate action against the responsible persons. In another incident, senior vice president of Awami National Party (ANP), Al-Faleh ward, was killed and another injured in the jurisdiction of Al-Faleh police station.
Police sources said the deceased, who was identified as Aziz Khan, was targeted by unidentified armed motorcyclists when he was sitting along with his party's activist Tariq Khan at his shop located Jamia Milyah near Pathan Goth. In an official statement, senior vice president of ANP Senator Muhammad Adeel strongly condemned the target killing of Aziz Khan. He also requested to chief minister Qaim Ali Shah to take serious notice on the target killings of his party's activists. Following the killings, violence flared up in certain city areas and at least five other people were shot death by unknown assailants in different areas of the city.
A 22 year old youth was shot dead by two unknown armed men in a bus near Bahadurabad. The deceased was identified as Ahsan Ullah, 22, son of Ameen Ullah. Official at Feerozabad Police Station told Business Recorder that the victim was travelling in S-21 bus when two unknown armed motorcyclists sprayed him with bullets. The victim died on the spot.
In another incident a 27-year-old Sohail, son of Ramzan was killed by unknown armed assailants in Korangi No 4. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post-mortem. Official at Korangi police station told Business Recorder that three unknown attacker shot him dead outside his house. He was the resident of Sector 35-A, Zaman town in Korangi No 4. three other people were shot death in different incident. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Rehman Malik took serious notice of the target killing of MQM's joint sector incharge.
