Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that his visit to Turkey has been successful in every respect, and a number of agreements of co-operation for development of various sectors were signed between Punjab government and Turkey.
He said that an agreement was reached between Solid Waste Management and Istanbul Municipality for providing clean and healthy atmosphere to the citizens. He said that a university will be established in Lahore where latest knowledge will be imparted while a 150 MW power generation plant will also be set up in Punjab with the co-operation of Turkey.
He said that he would talk to the Prime Minister regarding load shedding of gas in the province. He was talking to media on his return from Turkey and London at Allama Iqbal International Airport here on Sunday. The Chief Minister said that Pakistan and Turkey are bound together in centuries-old bonds of civilisation, culture and history, and their friendly ties are fragrant with selfless love and sincerity. He said that relations between Turkey and Pakistan have stood the test of time. He said that he would always cherish the sentiments of love and affection extended to him during his visit to Turkey. He said that he had meaningful discussions with Turkish authorities for development of resources and launching of joint ventures.
He said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between Punjab government and a renowned university of Turkey, Fatiehn, for the uplift of education sector. He said that under the agreement, in addition to setting up of the university in Lahore, Punjab government would also send 50 talented students, at its expenses for post-graduation and Ph D to Fatiehn University every year.
He said that beside exchange of teachers and students delegations, co-operation in research activities and exchange of scientific information will also be made. He said that an agreement has also been reached between Punjab and Istanbul Municipality for co-operation in the promotion of vocational education. Similarly, he said, an agreement has been signed between the association of Turkish businessmen and traders 'TUSKON' and Punjab government for co-operation in trade, industry and other sectors. About load shedding of gas in Punjab, he said that he would immediately talk to the Prime Minister in this regard.
