Benazir Bhutto's assassination

Published Updated

Pir Saheb Pagara's statement on December 25 about catching Benazir's killers is right when he says that "No one can touch Benazir's Killers." The arrest of 'top Pindi cops', allegedly involved in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, is just an eyewash, timed to calm the criticism and to placate the PPP workers on the occasion of the 3rd. death anniversary of their slain leader.
The ongoing investigation of the case is mere beating about the bush. The two arrested cops, are likely to be found only guilty of dereliction of duty and criminal negligence, on the part of one, relative to washing of the scene of the crime and the other, for leaving the scene, supposedly to attend to the attack on Nawaz Sharif's procession, which took place on the same day, around same time.
As far loading the murder blame on Musharraf is concerned, the question is: why would Musharraf engineer BB's assassination and for what purpose? If BB had been alive, Musharraf would still be the president as agreed between the two, with BB as the prime minister. With BB's assassination, Musharraf has not only lost presidency but, in turn, earned exile into a foreign land. He is the biggest loser in this nefarious game of murder.
The case of BB's assassination will remain unresolved, continue to linger on, under a carefully manipulated investigation process, open and will be sent to judicial oblivion on the day of expiry of the 5 - year term of office of the current PPP government, in 2013. This is the game plan. Q.E.D., period.
