Consumers Association of Pakistan (CAP) always held views that "Knowledge is Power" and once consumers are empowered with "Knowledge" they can fight their way through. A "Consumer" is an individual who acquires goods and services and CAP always try to bring all individual under its banner to empower them.
The Consumers Association of Pakistan by mobilising its own resources busy in creating awareness among Pakistani consumers on various issues such as:
-- False claims about product
-- Safety and efficacy
-- Access to quality good
-- Ways of misleading
-- Risks associated with counterfeit product
-- Bullying consumer by using oppressive terms in the sale contract
-- Using small print to hide facts from consumers
We also believe that only a sustained institutional approach, with measurable inputs and bench marked outcomes can contribute successfully towards empowerment. Moreover, it is well known how consumers' organisations are starved of funds to establish continual consumers' redressal programme. That's why we need "Ministry of Consumers Affairs" to achieve any thing significance for consumers.
Our country "Pakistan" has a series of ministries but unfortunately no attention has been given towards this much needed ministry and all Pakistani consumers have to survive without patronage from Government of Pakistan. Therefore I feel great satisfaction to advocate for consumers' ministry an important missing link from our representatives sitting in parliament.
Once the Ministry of Consumers Affairs is established the policies for consumer bodies, monitoring prices, availability of essential commodity, consumer movement in the country controlling of statuary bodies like Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA), National Accreditation Council (NAC), Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) etc and weights and measures can be effectively formulated and implemented in co-ordinated manner. In the same time Consumer Protection Act shall also be promulgated to enable the consumers to get some relieve from their ever hardening life pattern.
