Federal Minister for Textile Industry, Rana M Farooq Saeed Khan said that the current policy of reconciliation being pursued by PPP-led government is the only way forward to strengthen the democratic norms in the country. In response to the recent demand by JUI-F chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, calling for the dismissal of the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
Rana Farooq Saeed Khan said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman was a senior politician and he has a great personal regard for him but such statement at this critical period in the country's history could further complicate the matters and damage the reconciliation efforts.
"The country was right on the track to democratic maturity since the ushering in of the PPP-led government and since then it has been working hard to strengthen the democratic process under its policy of reconciliation but such statements could create problems", said the minister.
The minister said that it was for the first time in the political history of the country that a Prime Minister was unanimously elected as leader of the House and termed the calls for his removal as baseless. Rana Farooq appealed to all the political parties and their senior leaders to refrain from issuing such damaging statements. He further said that currently there was no political prisoner in the country because of a liberal and conciliatory policy of the government.-PR
