Flood survivors: Iran donates relief goods worth Rs 15 million

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday handed over eight wagonloads of relief goods worth rupees 15 million, donated by Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to Disaster Management Cell for their onward dispatch to the flood-affected areas.
The relief goods, comprising eatables and daily-use items, were jointly received by Iranian Consul General in Lahore Ali Nekan and LCCI President, Shahzad Ali Malik at Lahore Cantt Railway Station. Speaking on the occasion, Ali Nekan said Iranian people put their Pakistani brothers in high esteem and cannot leave them alone in this hour of need. He said that the goods have been selected, in consultation with LCCI, keeping in view day-to-day needs of the flood-hit people.
He informed that a plan has been finalised with the Disaster Management Cell for distribution of relief goods in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah and Rojhan Jamali. He paid rich tributes to LCCI for making consistent and persistent efforts aimed at facilitating flood affectees. He also thanked Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for sending the relief goods, adding that a judicious distribution of these would be ensured.
Expressing his views, Shahzad Ali Malik said that an LCCI delegation is visiting flood-hit areas in Layyah in the next few days to finalise its reconstruction plan. He added that reconstruction plan for 150 houses, in the badly affected areas, has been prepared by the chamber and work on it would be started soon. He further said LCCI is in constant contact with the local administration of the flood-hit areas.
In his remarks, LCCI former President Mohsin Raza Bukhari said that the Vice President of Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ghulam Hussain Shafie has already established a dedicated Cell at the Iranian Chamber of Commerce for collection and dispatch of relief goods to Pakistan.
